The Plan for implementing the new information system within Vibrant Life is described starting here. There are other Plans for Vibrant Life, not related to the Information System. These other Plans are also separately described in this Web Site.

That Electronic Information System Plan is divided into various Programs which are listed here, below, in brief and linked from here to a more detailed presentation of each of the Programs. On those more detailed pages there are references to the Projects within each Program. Projects are usually the working level of action for this Plan.

The Plan, and all the elements of the plan exist within something called an "Admin Scale" which is further presented starting here.

Generally most of this Plan is designed for implementation by Nick Reid and Tom Martin. I have listed the various projects assigned to each of them HERE.

Finally, the single most useful source for information to guide the execution of this Plan is in a very detailed description if the sequence of functions that take place within the Company from the time when a person shows some form of interest in us to the time when we send out literature, ship an order and beyond. "Beyond" includes the expectation that a person makes a second purchase, makes referrals to others and sends us a testimonial. That description is HERE.

Programs Within The Electronic Information Plan

Database Program For Vibrant Life 09/19/2004 The Database Program, like all others, refers to the "Modernization, Migration, Integration, Maintenance and Standardization of the database used within the Electronic Information System for Vibrant Life.
Electronic Book and Course Program 09/19/2004 Electronic Books, or as they are often called, "eBooks," are increasingly popular on the web. These are generally entire books which can be downloaded, for a fee or not, often in PDF format, and consisting of any number of pages from a few to many. Vibrant Life has available a large number of web pages that can be converted into eBooks.
Ongoing Maintenance Program 09/19/2004 While the Plan for the Vibrant Life Electronic Information System is in progress various problems or bugs may well develop with the existing information system, or with the computers or the computer software used within Vibrant Life. This Program is included here to handle these miscellaneous problems as they come up. This is part of the Organization for implementing the Plan so that the supporting organization keeps running.
Program For Web Design 09/19/2004 I, Karl Loren, started designing web pages many years ago, and learned new techniques as I learned about them. However, I had been far more interested in quantity of pages than quality of page designs. As the web presence has now matured into some 100,000 pages receiving as many as 10,000 visitors per day, and as many of these pages were last reviewed some years ago, as to the mechanical design, it seems now very appropriate to have a Program for an entirely new approach to web page design. That is this program.
The Google Advertising Program 09/19/2004 The Worthwhile Purpose is that search engines still account for a very large percentage of all web visits. Our Vibrant Life web sites have a large percentage of "word of mouth referrals" and we have, heretofore, considered that a huge plus for us.
Vibrant Life Entry Program 09/19/2004 The "Entry" Program refers to the change from the long-existing "order entry" program, generally referenced to as the "Enter" computer program, written many years ago utilizing a database called the dBase III program language, and compiled with Clipper. This "Entry Program" is then a description of the NEW computer language and the new program within that language that will utilize the database described in the "Database Program." (Note that the word "program" is used in two quite different senses within this paragraph. One usage refers to a computer program and the other usage refers to a "program" within the Planning procedure.)

Address Search and Match Project 09/19/2004 The Worthwhile Purpose is that the data entry system should facilitate different types of data in different formats and we should be able to predict those formats now and design our system to handle them.
Computer Program Writing Project 09/19/2004 The "Entry" computer program ("Project" for writing this program) refers to the change from the long-existing "order entry" program, generally referenced to as the "Enter" computer program, written many years ago utilizing a database called the dBase III program language, and compiled with Clipper. This "Entry Program" is then a description of the NEW computer language and the new program within that language that will utilize the database described in the "Database Program." (Note that the word "program" is used in two quite different senses within this paragraph. One usage refers to a computer program and the other usage refers to a "program" within the Planning procedure.)
Database Structure Design Project Within The Database Program 09/19/2004 The Worthwhile Purpose is that once the exact brand or form of "database" has been selected, then that database has to be designed to fit the needs for the Vibrant Life Electronic Information System.
Display Structure -- Master Main -- Database Project 09/19/2004 This is a coordinated Project for both Nick and Tom. I believe there is a command within MySQL something like the "display structure" in dBase that allows the presentation of the names of the fields, the datatype, the length of the fields and probably the relations with other tables. This presentation, then, by way of PHP converted into HTML, should be shown on a page on the Lucid Minds web. Generally all the existing tables used within the Entry Program can be created this way -- making structural changes as needed.
Fast Service Project 09/19/2004 To learn about alternatives to our present internet service and our web hosting service to see whether or not we can make a change as an improvment and/or significant savings in money or time.

We have an excellent source for the "proper" words that has not been used. This project implements the continuing use of that source.
Phone System Program 09/19/2004 The Worthwhile Purpose is that Karl has already selected a Panasonic to install in the house where Vibrant Life has its offices. This system replaces an old system that is no longer supported and has various problems that haven't been fixed. This new system provides new and useful features, including caller ID. The system can be moved to another location as needed.
Project For Installing Cookies 09/19/2004 The Worthwhile Purpose is that we have not used cookies in the past, but they can help provide us with valuable information about our web visitors. We will want to have a "cookie policy" and install an ethical and useful form of cookie on our web sites.
Project For Selecting the Vibrant Life Programming Language For Utilization of the Database 09/19/2004 The Worthwhile Purpose is that once the exact brand or form of "database" has been selected, then the exact brand or form of the computer program writing must be selected, and that means that the criteria for making that selection should be done first so as to maximize our efforts on the right program from the start.
Project for Selection of the Type of Database Utilized in the VL Electronic Information System 09/19/2004 The Worthwhile Purpose is that much work will be put in on the use of a database and the writing of programs to use it. Therefore choosing the "RIGHT" database is very important. Since we want this database to operate on the server, and be partially accessible to the public it is very important to select the right database that will work this way. Finally, we hope and expect to convert some or all of our programs into proprietary products that can be sold to others, so the database must be capable of being used that way.
Project for the Shopping Cart and eCommerce Part of the Plan 09/19/2004 Our current Shopping Cart is not integrated with our own database. Customers can and do enter their name, address and even credit card number in a database on the server, under the control of the eCommerce program. This Electronic Information System aims at having much more integration and modernization of our Shopping Cart, as well as our eCommerce service. We need to either get a separate set of these programs from another supplier, learn how to integrate what we have now with our new server-based database, or develop our own Shopping Cart and eCommerce service. This is the Plan that decides on the best path and then implements that.
Report & Statistics Design Project 09/19/2004 The Worthwhile Purpose is that the major tool of management is the use of "statistics" and the entire Electronic Information System must be designed so as to make it easy and even automatic to collect raw data into Statistics and Reports so that Management can do the job of Managing.
Shipping Weight And Cost Project 09/19/2004 For most shipping methods the cost depends on the number of packages and the weight of each plus the weight of all packages going to a single destination. (This latter may not be pertinent in all cases.)
Statistical Analysis Project 09/19/2004 It is easy to think of many different statistics that can or should be collected in our business. It is quite another set of things to make these statistics USEFUL for Management decisions and automatic to collect and display. That is what THIS Project is about, the "analysis" of statistics (and that assumes easy collection and display).
Statistics Collection and Presentation Program 09/19/2004 For this reason we strive to define one or more “products” for each staff member – a definition that relates to “things” which are brought into existence by the person and which are somehow traceable to a benefit, directly or indirectly, to our customer. Whatever these products may be, we then count them and compare the count for one period with the count for another similar period. This is our definition of a “statistic.”
Utilization of Web Position Results Project 09/19/2004 To increase the number of visitors to individual pages on our web sites through use of the Web Position Page Critique and Reporter program, and to measure the actual success of that activity from the increase in the actual number of visitors reported for that page in Urchin. As increases are made in the number of visitors to individual web pages we should expect to then also see an increase in the total number of visitors to any one web site, and to all web sites. This should, in turn, generate increased sales.
Vibrant Life Shopping Cart Compatibility With Froogle Project 09/19/2004 The Worthwhile Purpose is that Google has started a new service, called "Froogle" which searches and displays results its searches of shopping carts on the web. We are included in their display, but in very poor form. Our shopping cart probably needs redesigning to be useful with this new Google service, and we will need to supply "form feeds" in a certain format to Google so that all of our products can be listed in this service.
Web Position and other Scheduled Program "Overlap" Project 09/19/2004 The Worthwhile Purpose is that computer "off-time" is good to use for activities that can be scheduled to run automatically, but such schedule must then be designed so as to not cause problems that will cause a crash or stoppage when there is no one present to fix it.

Arrive On Time For Work Well Rested, Well Fed And Free Of Turmoil 01/30/2005 The great bulk of employees, probably, have the consideration that it is OK to arrive for work with less than an adequate amount of food and sleep -- that they can get by OK. Standards at Vibrant Life are different. This Company Policy lays out what we expect of any staff member throughout his employment relationship with us.
Consignment Sales Programs 09/19/2004 Consignment sales are common where an item is valuable and the likely sales entity (some dealer) is not interested in "buying" the item. He gets it "on consignment" instead and the true owner then is able to set the terms of sale which will be followed by his "agent" -- the dealer or whatever he may be called. One law that covers this is HERE.
Conversion of Currently Free Web Information Into A Paying Resource Program 09/19/2004 But, we want to move more in the direction of having the public see the value of information as separate from the "bottles" and be willing to pay something for the information. When we have achieved this status we can then have "information" being delivered for free from Division Six, and other information delivered at some cost from Division Four.
Facility Maintenance Program 09/19/2004 We use Loren and Bonnie's residence for much of our Company activities, We also have a warehouse facility. I have developed a program structure for issuing Projects and even Orders to assign various duties to Staff in relation to the maintenance of the residence and warehouse facilities. These duties could be as short as a verbal request to change a light bulb, or slightly more formal as an eMail "order" to ask for a slightly larger task to be done. Many of these will not require written orders, but those that do can be handled within this structure of the "Facility Maintenance Program" of Vibrant Life.
