Terms Of Employment

This is the general set of terms of employment for staff at  Vibrant Life.  This Policy should be shown to any prospective employee and he then asked if he is accepts these terms. Employment requires agreement with and continued adherence to these terms.  This same information has been mainly duplicated in another Company Policy, here.

Prior to our offering employment we expect each prospective Staff Member to take a series of three tests. The results of these tests are given to the person.  These tests include a standard IQ Test, an Aptitude Test and a Personality Test.

Salary is handled by our payroll company, Paychex.  The ED will gather whatever data needed to put someone on the payroll.

We work from 9 to 6 PM (New Company Policy, first established HERE) with an hour for lunch. "Eating on the fly" to make it a "9 to 5 PM" work day is OK only with the Manager's agreement and only when there is SOMEONE who is working until 6 PM to handle incoming Public calls. Whoever is present at work at 6 PM should send the daily Stat Report to both Karl and Clif.

The 9 to 6 PM is now the normal work day. However, if on any Monday, the condition of the stat (normal daily stat) shows "normal or above" for the previous week, then the senior manager on location may approve a 9 to 5 PM work day for THAT week, with "lunch on the fly" -- being eaten at the desk or at the building lunch room and not taking more than thirty minutes off from work.

Paychex processes pay checks weekly and we usually receive those paychecks on Tuesday, to pay for the previous week.  Thus, the work week goes from Saturday through the following Friday, and the pay for that period is given to you on the following Tuesday or Wednesday.  Normally you would receive your check on a Tuesday.

Staff members should not expect to arrange a different schedule.   The ED makes the final decision on any such request, and considers the needs of the Company, first, and then the desires of the Staff Member.

We do not pay overtime, even if someone works "extra" hours.

You are also welcome to come in for unpaid work or study on weekends, or evening, or other non-ordinary hours, but should get approval from the ED.

Our  Company is very much in the business of giving out health information to those who call or write, so each Staff Member is expected to become familiar with the information on our web sites. That can be done from home, but this is not paid-for training time.

If a person wants to get hours or days of regular work off, then they must "make up" that time in advance, with advance approval from the ED.  Thus, a Staff Member can have a special event for any day of the week and, if there is no problem created for the Company, the  ED can, if she wishes, allow "make-up" time, in advance, for the days or hours of regular time missed.

Since Staff is  paid on a weekly basis we would expect you to give us a one-week notice if you decide to leave, and we would likewise expect to give you that same notice if we  decide to terminate your employment despite the reference to normal "At Will" employment that does not legally require any notice either for leaving or being terminated.

There is no requirement in Vibrant Life that Staff Members become Scientologists.  The works by Mr. Hubbard that we use in the business are non-religious.  We do expect Staff Members to use the business technologies we have learned from Mr. Hubbard. You can click on the image to the left to review a 200 page book of the Management procedures we use.

Parking is at a premium for space at our office location.  We do not want Staff to intrude unpleasantly into the "curb space" of our neighbors.  Staff should also be aware of two days during the week (Thursdays and Fridays) when there is a restriction for two hours each day because of Street Sweeping.

There are certain "end of the week" tasks which must be done before close of business (6 PM) on Friday. It should be possible to do all of those within the normal hours, but if not, you would be expected to spend whatever additional time is needed to get those tasks completed before Friday, close of business.

Mondays are often our most busy day because of Internet orders received, through the Shopping Cart, during the weekend. Thus, it is vital that each Staff Member be particularly ready for work each Monday morning.

We also receive eMail requests for literature at all hours, so there is typically a batch of new eMail requests waiting for us every morning.  We have often had someone who preferred a work schedule to start at 8 AM and that Staff Member has usually had the responsibility of handling this accumulation of requests that came in during the night.

Our paid vacation system is that you get "one week" (5 work days) of paid vacation after completing one year on the job.  After two years you get two weeks (10 work days) and after five years you get three weeks of paid vacation.  There is no further increase in vacation time beyond three weeks of paid vacation.  While most time-off, including vacation time, must be approved in advance, and the time made up not only in the same week, but at a time that allows for useful interchange with our public, either by phone, FAX, eMail or other, it is also possible to take time off, without pay, for some approved reason.  We would consider this to be rare, reserved for things like pregnancy or such.

Paid holidays are five:  New Years, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.  If that holiday falls on a weekend, then either the preceding Friday or the following Monday will be the holiday.

We have no "benefits" like pensions or health insurance, nor do we have any "sick leave."  Generally you can always take time off by getting approval in advance and making up the time when agreed.

If someone is sick they should not come to work, but make up the time later.  Obviously this will not be make-up work that was approved in advance.

There will be $50 bonuses paid to each full time Staff Member based on the "CGI Stat" being "up" for each two weeks in a row.  (One bonus paid after the second week figures are in.)  (Corrected Gross Income is GI actually received, less refunds, bounced checks, sales tax and a few other items.)  The GI actually received from credit card sales counts as CGI only when it has been received by our bank.  Generally we receive those credit card deposits 48 hours after the credit card transmission.

This bonus will apply ONLY for weeks in which the CGI is $10,000 or higher.

We will notify Paychex of any change in the weekly salary.  The bonuses would be separately paid, not by Paychex.

We have long had another bonus based on achieving a "highest ever" stat using the VSD stat.  The current "highest ever" figure is printed out with every print of the daily statistics, usually posted on the bulletin board several times per day.

This bonus pays every full time staff member $100 for the first week when the VSD exceeds highest ever.  If the stat goes up to a new highest ever for two weeks in a row, the second week the bonus is $200.  If the stat goes up to a new highest ever for three or more weeks in a row, the bonus for each of those weeks is still $200.

Anyone working "part time" (anything less than a normal 40 hours per week) does not get any bonuses.

We have another bonus, consisting of a reward for reaching some target for the week, usually in VSD, set by Karl or the ED.  This reward is not cash and there is no cash equivalent. Rather, the reward has often consisted of an agreed time when all the Staff can go together to a Spa and then a nice restaurant.  Part of the purpose of this event is to socialize among the staff, so all are expected to go and non-Staff are not usually invited.  Occasionally an unusually high achievement for one week involves a reward of a massage for each Staff Member, at the Spa.  These rewards must be announced at the beginning of the week giving each Staff Member an opportunity to contribute especially toward increasing the statistic for that week.

Staff are welcome to eat at our office for lunch. Company-provided meals, including breakfasts were canceled by another Policy.

The very firm company policy is that no staff member may deal in or use illegal drugs, or psychiatric drugs, of any type at any time, on or off duty, while employed here.  Evidence of any such drug use is grounds for immediate termination.  There is no warning factor for this.  The time period includes the entire week, not just "work days."  Drug use prior to employment here is not considered a favorable part of life, but is not a bar to employment.

We suggest a special "detoxification program" to clear the body of drug residues and will finance or pay for the one we think is effective, based on time on Staff or commitment to continued service.

The job includes a complimentary set of vitamins worth $200 at retail, per month, for the Staff Member's personal or family consumption, with any additional vitamins available at a 50% discount. The retail value, $200, is not calculated with any of our usual salses discountsw. The vitamins included in this offer are only those formulas developed by us, not any third party items we may sell.  We will be interested in each Staff Member's health from the point of view of their talking to customers about health, and about diet and exercise.  They should be in a personal position to encourage our customers to follow healthy habits, as recommended by Vibrant Life.

Each Staff may simply request this benefit from the member of the Executive Council who is his senior and take whatever vitamins he wants, up to $200, enter them into the computer as an "order" and show zero for the amount of money involved.  (This will preserve the statistics on what bottles of our products are taken from inventory.)
