Vibrant Life accepts credit cards for payment on purchases. We accept those by phone, FAX, mail, walk-in, or on our Shopping Cart.

When a person enters his order in our Shopping Cart, the fields in that Shopping Cart are connected to, or even on the web pages of a service we select, called Authorize.net.

HERE is the link for the LogIn Page.

After LogIn, choose "Accounts" in the top bar and you will find the current users authorized to access this site:

Access to that web site is configured for as many people as we wish, generally including an "OWNER" who has the most extensive permissions and who generally is the ONLY person who can assign levels of permission to others.

Currently we have ONE OWNER registered, Loren C. Troescher.

This service collects the informaiton from the shopping cart order and sends it to various places. The information about the specific credit card charge (not the items purchased) is sent to the bank which issued that credit card -- it is sent there to get authorization from the bank that the card holder has cash or credit sufficient to cover that order.

When authorize.net finds this, there is also a "charge" made against that bank, on behalf of the card holder, to transmit the indicated total funds to authorize.net for the purpose of depositing into whatever checking account we specifiy.

Thus, money is transfered from the bank, THROUGH authorize.net TO Vibrant Life's checking account.

However, another entity is involved here. The credit card processing companies want to give the merchant (Vibrant Life) their money as soon as possible. It can take several days for a bank that has issued a credit card to send the money to our account. Also, if money were sent that way, then the bank would be sending out many checks to dozens or hundreds of different banks. To avoid this complexity there is an entity called the "funding service," which accepts the statement from Authorize Net that the card charge is "good" and this bank gives the money to Total Merchant Service to actually make the deposit into our account.

Total Merchant Servicek sends us a bill every month. Their mail address is 255 Gold Rivers Court, 3rd Floor, Basalt, CO 81821, Phone 1 888.68204464. Our account number is 008788260021794, under Vibrant Life.

Currently they charge us some $9.95 per month because of some service we did not ask for, related to "terminals" through which a credit card can be swiped. There is a vague explanation of how to "opt out" of this service. I've called and left a message to remove us from this service and return all fees they have charged without our agreement.

There fee for what they do was about $1,200 for January 2009.

Total Merchant Service, then, is the "funding source" for the cash deposits which Authorize.net has "authorized" as good. We have had relatively little to do directly with this company. When we had started in business many years ago, it was virtually impossible for a "mail order vitamin" company to get any credit card processing service.

We even had to hire a "fulfillment service" which, theoretically, got the phone orders from our customers (and did have live operators handling these phone orders). This fulfillment

Generally the money is deposited in our bank account within two business days of Authorize.net obtaining authorization from the card-issuing bank that the amount of the charge is OK.

We access Authorize.net for various purposes and with one or more of several levels of permission.

Here is a list of the various purposes and levels of permission provided for on the web site for Authorize.net:

User Role Definitions

The following five default user roles are available for your payment gateway account. Except for Account Owner, these user roles can be customized by modifying the users permissions.

Account Owner

An Account Owner is the top level user, has irrevocable access to all features of the Merchant Interface, and manages all other user accounts. Only an Account Owner may create another Account Owner. Currently that is Loren C. Troescher.

Account Administrator

By default, an Account Administrator has all Merchant Interface permissions except for the ability to enable or disable payment gateway services or manage Account Owner user accounts.  Clifford Woods has that title, as well as Bonnie J. Troescher.

Transaction Manager

By default, a Transaction Manager can perform all transaction processing functions in the Merchant Interface. Barbara Taylor has that status.

Account Analyst

By default, an Account Analyst may only view and download Merchant Interface statements and reports.

Account Contact

An Account Contact does not have access to the Merchant Interface and is created solely to receive account notification e-mails.

All user roles (except for Account Contact) have the following basic, non-editable rights in the payment gateway:

  • Basic interface access: User can log into the Merchant Interface, view the home page, announcements, help files, and contact Customer Support.

  • Edit own user profile: User can edit own contact information, password, secret question and answer, and subscribe to notification and administrative emails.

  • View account information: User can view payment gateway account information, services, payment methods, and reseller contact information.

  • View transaction information: User can view unsettled transactions, transaction details, Automated Recurring Billing (ARB) subscriptions, and file upload statuses for regular and ARB transactions.

  • View reports: User can view and download transaction summaries, transaction settlement reports, statistics reports and returned items reports.

  • Close account: User can close the payment gateway account by contacting Customer Support. To initiate the request, the user must be able to verify specific account information.

The following table further describes the account permissions that are associated with each user role.

In the background is an entity that guarantees that money sent out by a bank, through Authorize.net TO Vibrant Life will . . . . to be revised...

I, Karl Loren, have accessed Authorize.net on April 2, 2009, and made certain changes that are still subject to more changes:

  1. I have changed the password for Owner #1, Loren Troescher
  2. I have added Administrator, Bonnie Troescher, with new Userid and PW (They allow only ONE "owner" to be designated.
  3. I have added Clifford Woods as an Administrator.
  4. Some months ago I changed settings (somewhere) so that the deposits would be put directly into Wells Fargo, by the same entity that had been putting them into Cal Nat.
  5. The same settings for Authorize.net still work as before, with the money just going into a diffferent bank. All other alerts, orders, information continue to be sent to the same eMail addresses as they had -- some have been changed.
  6. The above change has been made. It appeared to go smoothly, we will still have Total Merchant Service until I or Clifford can switch them to the Wells Fargo Merchant Service.
  7. The Wells Fargo Service will be holding back 10% of all deposits as a "risk reserve" until they reach a total of $9,000. They hold that, no more, for at least one year to see if our account has operated smoothly enough to give us our reserve back.
  8. We may or may not have a reserve that has been held for some five or more years by Total Merchant Service -- I think they demanded one and that we have never tried to get it returned to us. I'll see.
  9. I've notified Wells Fargo of these changes and I have been able to see the deposit start.
