Google Analytics Reference

In the 30 year history of this Company I don't think there has been any activity as central to the operation than my study and use of computer skills, specifically including web publishing and database creation (the Master/Entry) program.

Even more basic to my whole being is the Policy I wrote about my "Re-
search Hat" here. In that Policy I concluded that my whole career has been spent in unknowingly predicting the future and learning tools before that "future arrived" -- tools which made it easy for me to move into that future, ready for it before others who had no pre-training in the tools that would be necessary.

Ability to perceive the future, whether you are aware of that as your perception or you think it is a "guess," when done accurately, and when you then act on that perception to learn, early on, the tools necessary to move into that future ?? That is the key to success in that future.

Also, since that future is moving onto us far more rapidly than the speed of arrival of change is greatly increased from times past, there is MUCH more need for each individual, often stuck in past ways and attitudes, to learn, study and organize his life NOW, so that he is prepared for that future.

I believe I am adventuring out into a new realm of study for me and organization for Vibrant Life. Long ago, many years, I saw/predicted the future of electronic communications and computers. This Policy is my further prediction of a path that leads nicely into the future and needs study NOW for the tools that will us each to move into that future smoothly.

This page will present some of the background of how and why I've chosen to take Vibrant Life electronic resources into the tools offered by Google, called Google Aps.

This service from Google follows on their early offer of the services of a previously named progam, "Urchin," which I had used extensively and which is referenced here.

This page, and the thousands of related Google pages, could be, for who will take the time and apply themselves, a study program unparalled in their life times, and in the history of this Company.

I commend to you, then, the continuing study of this page and the many references to Google Aps that will spring from this and other related pages.

If you have not already visited that page, and logged in with your access credentials, I urge you to do just that. The way I've left the above insert is that the "sign in" button actually takes you to the page where the actual sign in occurs.

If it is your FIRST visit, you should have a pre-selected password which you can only use once, before you must then change it to anything you wish, and change again as you wish. Also, you will have a pre-selected user name which only the Administrator, me or Gordon, can change.

I'm eager to pass on this authority to another who can establish his skill and understanding of Google Aps.

Google Aps was created when Google developed many tools for their own 12,000 employees -- worldwide. As they perfected those tools they started releasing them to the public -- mostly for free.

One of their most popular tools is called Gmail. It is still free. There is a greatly enhanced version of Gmail within Google Aps. These features are only available for those who have registered for Google Aps.

We recently had a crash of all our 100,000 web pages and, at the same time, loss of every one of our eMail addresses based on our own domain names. Fortunately most of us already had alternative eMail services (at Yahoo, Hotmail or Google). I then insisted that we all must have a Gmail account -- we soon did.

Now that I have learned much more about my own gMail account ( kloren1@gmail.com) I want us to start using the many rich features of gMail for all our eMail needs. I won't describe it here/now, but when we integrate the IMAP type of email account with Gmail, we will have many of the benefits of our own intranet even without using Google Aps. When we understand and use our Gmail accounts better we will have increased our organization tremendously, at low money cost, but with substantial demand by me of each staff member taking time outside Company hours to learn the many features of Gmail.

When we have much better implemented use of Gmail, we will be ready to look into and start using some of the extremely rich features within Google Aps.

To give you a quick clue, Google Aps allows you to automatically and easily create an "INTRANET" onto which you can allow as many USERS (employees, vendors, even customers) as you wish. Messages sent within and on this Intranet are generally much more secure than on the world wide web, and are generally free of spam.

What Is An Intranet?
An intranet is an internal staff web site that allows invited staff, clients, vendors, and strategic partners to work together using the Internet as a private, secure network. Your staff intranet can include any or all of the following tools:

• Knowledge management tools that allow a company to catalog and share information about corporate products or services.

• Web-enable and integrate your industry-specific software into your staff site for all to access and use online.

• Relationship management tools

• Human Resources files, information, and forms - no more paper, all information saved securely and backed up regularly.

• A public website editor that's drop-dead easy to use so your staff can keep content up to date, fresh, and useful on the web site that your customers see.

• Personal productivity tools for scheduling and communications - Company manuals, medical plan information, employee paging services - anything you can think of to make your office more efficient and your internal communication more effective.

Secure intranets are now the fastest-growing segment of the Internet because they are much less expensive to build and manage than private networks based on proprietary protocols. Find out about its benefits.

Virtually all large businesses have developed intranets. Each of them has its own features and tools. The Google Aps system allows great expansion of features and ease of use.

A very small company (with 2 employees) hardly needs any intranet but as soon as you have more employees, some working in different physical locations from others, an intranet is a very useful tool.

I accepted bad advice and was talked into buying a Microsoft Small Business Server, and spending thousands of dollars to prepare it for our own use, very much like an intranet. That decision was a bad one. I wasted time and money. Google Aps looks to provide much more service to us than the Small Business Server and all the fancy programming it demanded -- more from Google Aps at much less cost in time or money.

While Google Aps standard edition is free, there is a version called Google Aps Premium which currently costs a flat fee ($50.00 per year) for each person registered to use the Google Aps service. We have the Premium Edition and we have six persons currently registered (as users) to be able to access and use the Google Aps. For now there are TWO persons who have Administrator authority, Karl Loren and Gordon Bateson.

It would appear that although there are only TWO levels of permission with Google Aps, we can easily have web sections outslde the Google Ap area -- where these sections can have any degree of restriction (or permissions) we wish.

For instance, we could have both vendors and VL Staff as USERS within Google Aps, then link to Ludic Minds Company Policies from a LINK within Google Aps, but as soon as that link was clicked, the person would be LEAVING the INTRANET and going into the World Wide Internet where we (on Plesk, for instance) can set any number of different usernames and passwords for access -- not set up within Goggle Aps.
