Executive Makeup 03/08/2005 The findings of this study may pose problems for cultural relativism, which is interpreted to mean that there is no single right way. In other words, people should not impose their values and standards on others. The reasoning behind the arguments usually is that we should behave as the locals do, or "When in Rome, do as the Romans do." It is probably still unethical to encourage emulation of locals who are corrupt (Lane, Distefano, and Maznevski, 1997). Assimilating into a more corrupt collectivistic culture could encourage denial of accountability that individualism better maintains. Organization Structure For Vibrant Life 02/15/2005 Table Of Policies In Order Of Last Modified -- Detailed 02/14/2005 Table of Policies in order of date last modified Table Of Policies In Alphabetical Order by Title -- Summary 02/14/2005 Table Of Policies In Alphabetical Order Personnel Series 02/14/2005 Personnel Series Electronic Information System Series 02/14/2005 This is the list of Company Policies in the Electronic Information System Series.
Organizing Board Series 02/14/2005 The Organizing Board Series contains those Company Policies relating to the "Org Board" or "Organizing Board." Plans: The Programs and Projects In Page Title Order -- Summary 02/14/2005 The Plan for implementing the new information system within Vibrant Life is described starting here. There are other Plans for Vibrant Life, not related to the Information System. These other Plans are also separately described in this Web Site. Particle Entry Series 02/14/2005 The "entry of particles" is a specialized term with a great deal of significance within Vibrant Life. There is a Special Series of Company Policy Letters on this subject, each designated as being a part of the "Particle Entry Series." Incentive Pay System For Staff 02/14/2005 Table Of Policies In Alphabetical Order by Title -- Detailed 02/14/2005 Where Is The Pencil Sharpener? 02/10/2005 You can either take the time to read a bit of these junk mails, then delete them, and find that you are spending a couple hours per day just doing that. Or, you can call that "clever tech guy" to come in and fix your computer so that it automatically deletes the junk? Or, you can learn how to fix the eMail program, yourself, so these annoying messages won't spoil YOUR day. Health Savings Plan For Vibrant Life Staff On Incentive Pay 02/08/2005 Savings Plans For Staff 02/08/2005 Goal Set! Vibrant Life Expansion Plan 02/02/2005 I have set the goal for Vibrant Life VSD for the week ending September 30, 2005 -- at $85,000 for that week, with a regular increase from the current VSD of about $17,000, over the next 52 weeks, to achieve that goal.
That goal will require a very great deal of change in our resources -- staff, equipment, working capital, inventory, warehouse and office space and many other related changes.
Appointment Of Executive Director 02/02/2005 Maia Mulvena has been appointed as the Executive Director of Vibrant Life. This Company Policy puts that earlier decision into written Policy form.
Founder Karl Loren's Retirement Plan 02/02/2005 At this writing I, Karl Loren, am 73 years old and want to plan for my own succession, and for my work schedule between now and a future time when I am no longer here.
Arrive On Time For Work Well Rested, Well Fed And Free Of Turmoil 01/30/2005 The great bulk of employees, probably, have the consideration that it is OK to arrive for work with less than an adequate amount of food and sleep -- that they can get by OK.
Standards at Vibrant Life are different. This Company Policy lays out what we expect of any staff member throughout his employment relationship with us.
What Is A Particle? 01/22/2005 The word "particle" is used by us to mean a "particle of communication." A more common term would be a "message," but that term is too limiting for our use.
Download And Installation Of Unauthorized Files 01/21/2005 Admin Scale for Vibrant Life 01/20/2005 The "Admin Scale" for Vibrant Life is described here in a simple list format. Various parts of this list are linked to more detailed presentations of those parts of the Admin Scale.
Full In-Baskets Are Like Backed-Up Sewers 01/14/2005 Handling Of Incoming eMail Messages 01/12/2005 With about 10,000 visitors per day, some 30 of them (currently) will take the time to write a message to Karl Loren. The very tiny percentage of visitors who send messages is a fact of web life that must be appreciated. There is need for a very, very large volume of web visitors before we can expect results. For instance it appears that as many as 80% of the visitors spend, each of them, 10 seconds or less on the web. This means that they “made a mistake” or clicked for our web “by accident” or whatever it means. Those who spend only 10 seconds will not likely become customers based on such a visit. But, there is also that number of visitors who spend 30 minutes or more visiting the web. They are VERY interested and are very likely customers. How Good Does A Booklet Or Brochure Have To Be? 10/12/2004 As my web interest grew, my interest in printed material declined so that we arrived at a state of having more than 100,000 web pages published on more than 20 different web sites, and our printed literature had fallen to a sad state of quality and coverage. I still view our web presence as of first importance to our outflow technology, but I have now also realized that there is no reason we cannot return to the bulk mail and printed media in which our roots lie. Division 4 -- Job Description 10/06/2004 This Company Policy describes the summary of the requirements for a new person taking over Div 4, and, ultimately, moving into the position of ED of Vibrant Life. While it would be ideal that a new person can already do all of the actions below, we expect that many of these will require extensive hatting. The general expectation is that increased salary will come with increased mastery of these activities. Future Personnel Pay Plans 10/06/2004 This issue was originally written in January 2004, since then the need for planning expansion of space has grown and, as yet, little or no changes have been made. On October 5, 2004, I wrote a simple task to move the large TV in the den so that the den could be, in turn, further changed so as to provide more work spaces. I'd like to see more planning done for all of the changes suggested in this issue. It is NOT that these changes need to be implemented, but I would like to see them evaluated as to desirability and scheduling for action. Peggy will be leaving on her vacation near the end of November and it is certain that neither Bonnie nor I expect to make breakfast, for instance, for all the staff -- nor am I very eager to change the dynamics, further, of the work experience here as to see some sort of "joint effort" to share the cooking and cleaning responsibilities in some way among staff. The implementation of an incentive pay system gets harder and harder the more people we have working here -- who have signed on expecting a standard salary unaffected by company statistics. Reasonableness -- LRH 09/21/2004 an objective can always be achieved. Most usually, when it is not being achieved, the person is finding counter-intention in the environment which coincides with his own (this is reasonableness), and his attention becomes directed to his own counter-intention rather than to his objective. i.e. he has interiorized into the situation. Wrong Relationships 09/21/2004 This plan starts with data that might be very new to you -- the truth of the matter is that all diseases and illnesses, and every type of health problem has some sort of "relationship" problem that comes first. This wrong relationship could be right now, in present time, or it could have been many years ago. This also applies to "health" of a commercial enterprise such as Vibrant Life. Reverse Engineering -- The Unsung Internet Miracle 09/19/2004 This Company Policy deals with the question of how we measure the effectiveness of particular promotional campaigns and tools. Even more specifically, this Company Policy deals with the measure of the effectiveness of Internet Web Pages which seem to be the primary source of our business -- the primary method of promotion we have used for many years. Sub-Product List 09/19/2004 There is a useful concept developed by Mr. Hubbard, called the "sub-product" list. The short explanation of this is that a "final product" is made up of several previous "sub-products." If you are having difficulty in producing a final product the problem is often that some earlier "sub-product" is missing or defective. It helps, then, in organizing an activity, to know what are the sub-products that lead up to a final product. Work In Flows 09/19/2004 I'm now going to present some very detailed procedures for handling customer orders and insist that we all follow them. I will no longer be reasonable about poor administration of particles and orders. However, I invite Art to raise his understanding of our scene so that further such orders become unnecessary.
End Of Week Tasks 09/19/2004 There is an important management concept that the “start of work on a Monday should not include leftover work from Friday.” Mondays are typically one of our busiest days – since we accumulate web site orders on a 24x7 basis – and many orders are received over the weekend. Thus, there are usually a much larger number of orders and requests for literature, etc., on Monday mornings.
Valuable Final Product 09/19/2004 A Well-Informed Person Who Achieves A Longer-Lived And More Healthy Body Because Of Learning And Applying Our Educational Materials and Using Nutritional Products! Normal Employment Rules 09/19/2004 Any exceptions or amendments to these “normal” employment rules would have to be in written form for any staff member, to be valid. Cycle Of Action For A System Data Entry 09/19/2004 There is a "usual" sequence, or cycle during which various functions and actions take place from the time a person first thinks of contacting Vibrant Life to the time when he makes his first purchase, and then even to the time that he recommends us to another and makes a subsequent purchase. Understanding this sequence will help to design the new "data entry system" for our Electronic Information System.
Competition Is A Trick Of The Weak To Damage The Strong and Honest Producers 09/19/2004 As we expand, and as we add new products and services, we will generally follow the policy that we do NOT expect to attract customers with "deals" or lower prices than others. Rather we look for ways to expand and prosper without resorting to price competition. Collection Of Identities 09/19/2004 More specifically, an "identity" is represented by a name plus some means of contacting that person. That would mean that an "identity" must have a phone number or an address (or both).
Corrected Gross Income 09/19/2004 Corrected Gross Income is generally the total gross income for a period, adjusted for various items that may have been included in gross income, as that figure is generated by our computer programs, but which need to be removed or where something was NOT included in GI and now needs to be added. For instance, the computer entry for a sale now includes the amount we charge for California sales tax. The tax we charge shows up as a part of the gross income. We consider that “our” gross income, when converted to CGI, should not include taxes that we collect on behalf of the State of California. Detailed Statistics List 09/19/2004 Company Policy Terms Of Employment 09/19/2004 This is the general set of terms of employment for staff at Vibrant Life. This Policy should be shown to any prospective employee and he then asked if he is willing to agree with these terms. Employment requires agreement with and adherence to these terms. Rings On The Phone 09/19/2004 The person who calls us on a telephone is probably not used to having that call answered on the first ring. When that happens it is a pleasant surprise to the caller, and a mark of the efficiency of our operation. Our objective is to always answer every phone call on the first ring. Get Acquainted Drill 09/19/2004 A new staff member is invited to follow the steps below, in order, as a drill to get acquainted with the work space. Do these steps in the order presented. Present any results to the person in charge of your employment here. You can use a piece of paper for this drill, and write any answers or comments you wish. If necessary you can ask questions, but part of the purpose is for you to "explore" the house and find things.
Plans 09/19/2004 A plan is a short-range broad intention thought up for the handling of a broad area to remedy it or expand it, or to obstruct or impede an opposition to expansions. Establishment Of Company Policy 09/19/2004 Company Policy is always and only set by me, Karl Loren. Anyone may suggest a policy, or comment on one, but they are not official Company Policies unless issued by me. Statistics 09/19/2004 Company Policy Bypass 09/19/2004 Successful organizations, on the other hand, breed a spirit of "co-operation" such that orders are never necessary and requests are accepted and acted upon. These may seem similar? They are not. In the successful organization the non-performance is handled with bypass. In the namby-pamby organization, non-performance is met with hope or begging.
Advanced Concepts: Object Oriented Programming, and Object Oriented Databases 09/19/2004 Company Policy What is "Valuable Service Delivered," VSD? 09/19/2004 The VSD is the statistic of how much of the VFP was created during a period, measuring it in money received. The more bottles of stuff that we sell, the higher will be the VSD. History of Programming Technology 09/19/2004 DOS (Disk Operating System) is a very simple language for manipulating data on the hard disk. There are relatively few commands within DOS, and data is stored, in essence, in random places on the disk -- with a "File Allocation Table" keeping track of where stuff was stored. DOS has been pretty much replaced by the "Windows Operating System" which has the same purpose, but does it in a far more complex and useful way. The dBase program language, and MySQL (both described on this page) are, in reality, nothing more than greatly improved methods of placing and manipulating data. Severe Reality Adjustment 09/19/2004 On the planetary level we have terrorism as the result of these cultural divisions. Incidentally, as much as these divisions seem oriented to technology, they are just as much, or more, oriented toward morality -- or optimum survival for all. The mud-hut farmer may have no sense of "wrongness" in growing poppies, but it is just that he has yet to "rise" to a cultural awareness of the morality of this. Certainly the same applies to hacking in either the mud-hut culture or the computer hacker's society. So, cultural divides in morality are not well appreciated as more basic than cultural divides in technology.
Web-Based Policies 09/19/2004 Each Staff Member is encouraged to use the "username" and "password" to access this section, and once there, to use a bookmark on your computer so you can click on this section immediately, and even have your computer "save" your username and password. This will make it easy to go to that section any time you wish.
Snap Back 09/19/2004 Generally "snap back" applies when the unnecessary response is to a request or question, where the person responding is not really answering a question, or not really responding to a request, but is giving out words that have the result of changing the subject, or dispersing attention, or expressing emotion along with an actual answer.
Work Arounds 09/19/2004 But, when the problem is random, or infrequent, there may not be any Company Policy that covers that subject. That is when some bright person has to become aware of the problem and figure a solution that is not worthy of putting into Company Policy. We call that a "work around." It is a common term in the computer world because the complexities of the computer world are so great that many unanticipated "bugs" appear.
I Agree! I Understand! I Accept! 09/19/2004 Any organization which prospers can only do so when the individual members of that organization at least accept (behave in accordance with) Company Policy and, further, act to get others to accept the Policy when failure is observed, or failing any personal effort to "correct" they are willing to report the behavior for some senior to sort out.
Daily Reports 09/19/2004 Each staff member is invited to send a "daily report" to me, to report on the production he had for that day -- the successes.
Security: Client And Server 09/19/2004 Company Policy Looking There While Working Here 09/19/2004 This Company moves ahead, and serves the public, because of the good guys here. The good guys don't need to hear false criticisms of their Company that are CAUSED by someone having to justify his "looking there while working here."
False Report 09/19/2004 The word "lie" is much too simplistic to be the definition of "false." A "true" report, of course, would not contain any false data, so in order for a report to be "false" there would have to be ADDED false data. In this fashion each of the above items can be fully understood as one of the keys to describing a false report.
The Vital History Of Our Success 09/19/2004 We "communicate" with our public through the web pages. That is rather impersonal. Then there is the phone call that includes the placing of an order. This is well-recognized here as a vital moment in our relationship with the customer. But, in between these two levels of communication is the "letter written in response to an incoming message." How Good Does A Web Page Have To Be? 09/19/2004 A web page IS a piece of art and it DOES carry a message. Many web designers miss this point and think that "content is king." They work hard to get an impressive message without realizing that they are preventing the audience from getting the message because the technical presentation is inadequate.
Kimberly Withey Pilot Hat 09/19/2004 Intention 09/19/2004 Successful people intend to be successful. Failures do not. Or, more accurately, failures are too much introverted into their own past failures and do not look outward to find the solutions about some problem in front of them. If they are looking inward, they do not find solutions, but only reminders of past failure.
Statistics Held Down 09/19/2004 A senior executive is soft in the head if he thinks statistics just stay down. They are always HELD down hard. Emergencies don't just happen because someone is idle. Emergencies are mad -- actively. It takes a lot of counter-effort to jam an org's flows -- if you don't believe it, then measure it by the effort you exert trying to get things going. Vibrant Life Purposes 09/19/2004 To expose false data about the health of the body, and provide true and valid data. To promote the greater truth of the seniority of spiritual factors over material factors affecting the health of the body. To promote the physical factor of detoxification as senior in importance to the factor of deficiencies relative to the health of the body. To provide true data and useful products and services relative to the detoxification of the body. To provide true data and useful products and services relative to the deficiencies that affect the health of the body. To develop and use an Electronic Information System that delivers valuable information to clients effectively and serves society with superior effectiveness to accomplish the other Purposes. Gross Income, GI 09/19/2004 Gross Income includes money received allowing for the usual experience of of clearing and collection. How Good Does A Letter Have To Be? 09/19/2004 Company Policy The Coming Electronic Communication Revolution 09/19/2004 Mary comes to the shopping cart -- she knows that the "cart" is not a live being, but she still wants to "communicate" TO the cart -- she wants to convey her thoughts to the cart. She wants to ask questions of the cart. She wants to get answers to HER questions from the cart. And, she wants that to be as instantaneous as it would be between John and herself, in the same room.
The closer our shopping cart can approximate live communication between two people the closer we are to a truly modern miracle in the new age.
Hats 09/19/2004 The duties of a post. It comes from the fact that jobs are often distinguished by type of hat, as fireman, policeman, conductor, etc. Hence the term hat. A hat is really a folder containing the write-ups of past incumbents on a post plus a checksheet of all data relating to the post plus a pack of materials that cover the post.
Vibrant Life Goal 09/19/2004 A Civilization With Healthy Bodies, Free Of The Bodily Distractions That Might Prevent Pursuit Of Spiritual Freedom Structure of Two Legacy Databases 09/19/2004 We have several databases, in the dBase III format, which have been in use for more than 15 years. There are the database structure from which we are going to migrate to a server-based database. Particle Handling -- An Overview 09/19/2004 The purpose of this Company Policy is to provide a broad overview of the Particle Entry System in our Company. Structure of The Main Legacy Database 09/19/2004 Targets 09/19/2004 Mr. Hubbard developed an entire management technology of Planning which includes different types of "targets." Those different targets are described here. Ideal Scene 09/19/2004 The Ideal Scene for Vibrant Life is: growing popularity and use of the free information published and growing sales and profitability from sale of information, training and products, all designed to improve the health of the body and particularly the prevention and remedy of heart disease and cancer, Orders 09/19/2004 It is often a sad truth that "orders" are necessary where cooperation and awareness are lacking. Thus, the senior is expected to be aware of and in full agreement with the Policies of the group and any person who is thus aware and in full agreement should see what is needed from a Plan, Program or Project, and not need an order.
